Third grade is such an exciting year at Saint Joseph Catholic School In addition to regular academics, some of the third grade highlights are:

All Saints Day Prayer Service- Third Grade class presents a prayer service to the whole school.

Roller Coaster Science- Students learn about Physics through hands on building of roller coasters.

Valentine’s Day Tea- Students dress up in their finest and invite community members and prayer buddies to a tea and show. Students also showcase their manners which they have learned throughout the year!

Are you smarter than a third grader? Based on the wildly popular “Are you smarter than a fifth grader?” show, students and parents embark on a battle of the brains against each other. Questions are based on the entire curriculum. (more)

Chess- Students learn the basic skills of chess and work on mastering the game. Students strive to advance in tournament play and then see if they can beat the principal.

Cooperative learning with older students- Our third graders experience science with the older students who help teach them concepts they are learning. Students from older grades also read with our students for more community building.

Technology- Students in third grade learn the art of word processing as they learn how to type and edit papers. They also learn about power point and use it throughout the year. Students do computer research as well in addition to using World Book Online.

Service- Students give to our soldiers by sending care packages, letters, and prayers as a means of thanking them for the freedoms they provide us with.

Reading- Students actively participate in the Accelerated Reader program as we set both class and individual goals. Students strive to continue growth in reading with the help of this program and teacher support!

Multiplication- Students work on learning multiplication concepts throughout the year, and learn their facts as well!

Cursive- Students learn cursive techniques at the beginning of the year. After Christmas break students write only in cursive taking pride in their penmanship! (more)

GO FOR IT!!!! Third grade is the first year that students may earn their keys for the Go For It Program. Students will do a lot of journaling, discussions and projects in order to earn their seven keys for a more successful life! GO FOR IT!!!!!!!
