Students experience a wide variety of mediums in Art class.
Instruction in art encourages students to deepen their appreciation of God’s gifts to the world and to develop artistic skills and techniques to express their own gifts and talents.
Art class provides an opportunity for creative expression, problem solving, connecting with other cultures, and reflecting on historical works of art.
Students will experiment with a wide variety of art materials and processes including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, weaving and work in clay. 7th and 8th grade art includes working on the potter’s wheel.
Because the Catholic school educates the total child, art should not be seen as an “extra”. Indeed, the arts are inseparable from the very meaning of the term “education”. Instruction in art supports and enriches student learning in all academic subjects.
The skills practiced in the creation of art, such (more)as brainstorming, planning, team work, and seeing a project through to completion are useful lessons for success in all aspects of life.
Please feel free to visit. We’d love to show you the art room at Saint Joseph Catholic School!
