Liturgical Ministries at
Saint Joseph
Liturgy Committee
Under the direction of the Pastor, this group of volunteers strives to bring forth the beauty and mystery of the Church's rich liturgical heritage. Its membership includes those with the knowledge and artistic skills needed to bring the liturgy alive with music, poetry, and art. Members are sensitive to the thirst of people for Scripture, Theology, and Prayer.

Lectors
Volunteers are trained to proclaim the "Word of God" during the Liturgy of the Word at Mass and other liturgical celebrations. Lectors also may be called upon to lead the Prayer of the Faithful and deliver the weekly announcements at the end of Mass. Volunteers must attend a formal training session.

Extraordinary Ministers of Communion
Volunteers, who desire to bring the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharistic Bread and Wine to their neighbors, are presented in name to the Archbishop under the recommendation of their pastor. The Archbishop then authorizes the pastor to mandate these volunteers to assist in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass and/or take Holy Communion to Catholic neighbors who are home bound, hospitalized, or in nursing homes. Volunteers may choose to serve as an Extraordinary Minister of Communion in any or all of the above areas of need. Volunteers must attend a formal training session.

Cantors
Teen and adult volunteers are trained to lead the Assembly in song at Sunday Mass and other liturgical celebrations. Volunteers must attend a formal training session.

Ushers
Volunteers are trained to welcome and assist people attending Mass and other liturgical celebrations. Ushers are also responsible for taking up the collection of the weekly tithe and presenting the gifts to the Celebrant for the Preparation of the Gifts during the Liturgy of the Eucharist at Mass. Volunteers must attend a formal training session.

Altar Servers
Any parishioner having completed the first half of fourth grade, and able to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of the awesome Mystery of the Mass, may volunteer to be trained to assist the Celebrant during Mass and other liturgical celebrations. Volunteers must attend a formal training session.
